Case Study
UX and product design for the UAE Federal Tax Authority — building a clear, accessible digital experience that makes complex tax obligations manageable for individuals and businesses across the UAE.
The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) is the UAE government entity responsible for administering, collecting, and enforcing federal taxes — including Value Added Tax (VAT) and Excise Tax — across the UAE.
Established in 2016 ahead of VAT's introduction, the FTA serves individuals, businesses, and tax agents who need clear guidance, registration tools, and self-service capabilities to manage their obligations — making clarity and accessibility central to the digital experience.
The Federal Tax Authority needed a clear, accessible digital experience to help individuals and businesses understand and meet their tax obligations.

Designed responsively for desktop and mobile and built as a product, the experience prioritised plain guidance, easy navigation, and confidence at every step.
Mapped the needs of the FTA's diverse users — individuals, businesses, and tax agents — and reviewed comparable government digital services to understand what clarity, trust, and accessibility looked like at this scale.
Defined the information architecture and key task journeys — VAT registration, filing, payment, and guidance — structuring dense, high-stakes tax content into clear, step-by-step flows for each user type.
Designed a clear, authoritative visual language — accessible, trustworthy, and built for confidence — that made a complex government service feel approachable without losing the gravity of what it asked users to do.
Delivered a responsive product across desktop and mobile — with consistent, accessible design patterns that met government standards and scaled across the FTA's full range of services and user types.
