Carrefour is one of the world's largest retail chains — in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia it operates under franchise through Majid Al Futtaim, one of the region's most prominent holding companies.

The franchise spans 15+ countries — including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, and Kenya — with hundreds of hypermarkets, supermarkets, and convenience stores serving millions of customers annually. Majid Al Futtaim's Carrefour is one of the largest omnichannel grocery and general merchandise retailers in the region, operating both physical stores and a rapidly growing ecommerce platform. With vast product ranges spanning fresh food, electronics, clothing, and household goods, the online experience needed to be as clear and trustworthy as the in-store one — handling promotions, giveaways, and loyalty rewards without overwhelming shoppers.

Embedded UX/UI designer on the Carrefour ecommerce team — working across the homepage, core shopping journeys, product discovery, and the MyClub loyalty programme.

01
Homepage & UX Design
Led the homepage redesign — restructuring how promotions, featured products, and category entry points were surfaced so the experience felt clear and confident rather than overwhelming.
02
Product Discovery & Navigation
Improved how customers navigated and browsed Carrefour's vast product range — refining category structures, search entry points, and product listing layouts to shorten the path to the right item.
03
MyClub Loyalty Design
Designed the visual identity and UX for the MyClub loyalty programme — giving members a clear, engaging experience for tracking rewards, accessing exclusive promotions, and understanding their benefits.
04
Cross-functional Delivery
Collaborated with product managers and engineers via Figma, Jira, and Confluence — translating UX decisions into production-ready specs and working through the iterative delivery cycle.

The challenge

Carrefour's ecommerce platform had to handle a vast, constantly changing product range — fresh food, electronics, clothing, household goods — alongside rotating promotions, giveaways, and a loyalty programme, all without overwhelming shoppers or eroding trust.

Customers needed to find the right products quickly and feel confident in the experience — from homepage through to checkout. The existing design made this harder than it needed to be.

My approach

I focused on the homepage and core ecommerce journeys — restructuring how promotions, featured products, and categories were surfaced so the experience felt clear and trustworthy rather than cluttered.

In parallel, I designed the MyClub loyalty programme UX and visual identity, and improved product discovery and checkout flows to reduce friction on the path to purchase.

A Discover → Define → Design → Deliver process — grounded in understanding how customers shopped the platform and where friction was costing Carrefour conversions and trust.

Discover
Platform audit & customer insight
Audited the existing ecommerce experience to map where customers were dropping off, losing confidence, or struggling to find products. Analysed the homepage, category navigation, and promotional structures to identify the highest-impact areas for redesign.
Define
UX priorities & information architecture
Defined the core UX priorities — homepage clarity, promotional hierarchy, product discoverability, and loyalty accessibility — then restructured the information architecture to reduce cognitive load and shorten the path from landing to purchase.
Design
Homepage, flows & loyalty UI
Redesigned the homepage to lead with clear promotional banners, organised product carousels, and strong category entry points. Designed the MyClub loyalty UI — visual identity, member dashboard, and rewards presentation — and refined product listing and checkout flows.
Deliver
Specs, handoff & iteration
Worked with product and engineering via Figma, Jira, and Confluence to deliver production-ready specs. Iterated on designs through the delivery cycle — refining components and flows based on engineering feedback and stakeholder review.

A redesigned homepage, streamlined shopping journeys, a MyClub loyalty experience, and an improved product discovery and checkout flow.

Homepage redesign
Restructured the homepage to surface promotions, featured products, and key category entry points with clarity — reducing visual noise and strengthening brand trust for the millions of customers landing on it each day.
Product discovery & navigation
Improved category navigation, product listing layouts, and search entry points — making it easier for shoppers to browse Carrefour's vast range and find the right product without friction or confusion.
MyClub loyalty programme
Designed the visual identity and UX for MyClub — giving members a clear, engaging way to track points, access exclusive offers, and understand their rewards, with a distinct visual treatment that set it apart from the core ecommerce experience.
Account & checkout flow
Streamlined the customer account experience and checkout journey — reducing unnecessary steps, clarifying delivery and payment options, and improving the overall confidence customers felt completing a purchase.
