Case Study
UX and web design for Dubai's largest themed shopping destination — translating a rich, explorer-inspired in-mall experience into a clear, navigable digital presence for shoppers, diners, and visitors.
Ibn Battuta Mall is Dubai's largest themed shopping destination — built around the journeys of the 14th-century explorer Ibn Battuta, with six distinct themed courts inspired by the countries he visited.
The mall blends retail, dining, and entertainment with history, culture, and storytelling — creating an immersive in-mall experience unlike any other destination in Dubai. Translating that richness into a clear, functional digital presence required balancing the mall's distinctive character with the practical needs of shoppers planning a visit.
Ibn Battuta Mall needed a digital experience that captured its distinctive themed world of shopping, dining, and history.
Ibn Battuta Mall blends shopping, dining, and entertainment with history, culture, and the story of a remarkable explorer — Dubai's largest themed shopping destination.
The challenge was translating that rich, themed in-mall experience into a clear, usable digital presence.
I designed a responsive website that balanced the mall's distinctive themed character with the practical clarity shoppers need.
It made browsing stores, dining, and entertainment effortless, with ecommerce functionality built in.
Explored the mall's themed character — six explorer courts inspired by Andalusia, Tunisia, Egypt, Persia, India, and China — and reviewed how to translate this rich identity into a usable digital experience.
Defined an information architecture that balanced the mall's distinctive themed structure with the practical needs of shoppers — clear navigation of stores, dining, entertainment, and events.
Designed a visual language that carried the mall's sense of place — rich imagery, character, and cultural references — without sacrificing the clarity shoppers needed to browse and plan.
Delivered responsive specifications across all devices — with ecommerce and promotions built in, and consistent patterns that preserved the themed experience at every screen size.
An immersive homepage conveying the mall's unique explorer heritage — introducing the themed courts, surfacing key brands and dining, and inspiring visits through rich visual storytelling.
A filterable directory of stores organised by category and themed court — letting shoppers browse the full brand mix while using the mall's distinctive six-court structure as a navigational layer.
Dedicated dining and entertainment sections with ecommerce and promotions functionality — presenting the mall's F&B and leisure offer in a way that encouraged planning and discovery.
A fully responsive design that maintained the mall's themed character across all screen sizes — optimised for in-mall mobile use as well as at-home trip planning.
